Terms of Service

Last updated: June 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using SealFile, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you disagree with any part of the terms, you may not use the service. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use SealFile.

2. Service Description

SealFile provides zero-knowledge encrypted file sharing. We provide the encryption tools and storage infrastructure. We do not and cannot access the content of your files due to our zero-knowledge architecture. All encryption and decryption happens client-side in your browser.

3. Acceptable Use

You must not use SealFile to:

  • Share malware, viruses, or other harmful software
  • Distribute child sexual abuse material (CSAM)
  • Facilitate illegal activities
  • Harass, threaten, or intimidate others
  • Infringe on copyright or intellectual property rights
  • Distribute spam or unsolicited communications

We reserve the right to disable shares that violate these terms based on user reports. We cooperate with law enforcement regarding illegal content to the extent possible given our zero-knowledge architecture.

4. CSAM Policy

We have a zero-tolerance policy for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Shares reported for CSAM will be immediately disabled and reported to NCMEC (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children) and relevant law enforcement authorities. We implement available technical measures to detect and prevent the distribution of CSAM through our platform.

5. Abuse Reporting

Any user can report a share via the “Report” button on the recipient page. Shares receiving multiple reports are automatically disabled pending review. You can also report abuse directly to abuse@sealfile.app.

6. Account Terms

SealFile currently operates without user accounts. When registered accounts are introduced in a future release, you will be responsible for maintaining the security of your account and must provide a valid email address for account creation.

7. Intellectual Property

SealFile's client-side encryption library is open source under the MIT License. The SealFile name, logo, and brand assets are proprietary. You retain all rights to your files. We claim no ownership of content you share through SealFile.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

The service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or absolute security. We are not responsible for data loss. Share links are not recoverable if lost.

9. Limitation of Liability

In no event shall SealFile, its directors, employees, partners, or suppliers be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including without limitation, loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from your access to or use of (or inability to access or use) the service. Our maximum aggregate liability shall not exceed the total fees paid by you in the 12 months preceding the claim.

10. Data Deletion & Expiry

Shares are automatically and permanently deleted after their expiry period. This is by design and is not reversible. We are not a backup or permanent storage service. Do not use SealFile as your only copy of important files. Once a share expires or reaches its download limit, the encrypted data is permanently destroyed.

11. Modifications to Terms

We may modify these terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via a prominent notice on the website. Continued use of SealFile after changes constitutes acceptance. We encourage you to review these terms periodically.

12. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of SealFile will be resolved in accordance with the applicable jurisdiction.
